The experiment

The egg-in-bottle experiment is one of the classic hands on scientific discipline activities.  In the traditional version, yous place a difficult-boiled egg on top of a glass bottle. The egg is plainly wider than the opening, but somehow air pressure sucks information technology right through.  Information technology's awesome!

Our "Twist"

Even though I dearest the traditional version of this action, I think information technology can be improved by making one little change. The Science Behind This Activeness

The burning piece of paper heats the air in the bottle, causing it to expand and some of the air to escape out past the airship. (Y'all might observe the balloon jiggling upward and downward while the air rushes out past it.)

When the flame uses upwardly all the oxygen inside the bottle, the paper stops burning. The air in the canteen begins to cool downward and contract, forming a partial vacuum within the bottle.

The air pressure outside the bottle pushing downwardly on the airship is greater than the air pressure level inside the bottle pushing upwards on the airship. That's what causes the balloon to go sucked down into the canteen.
